At first, I would see Gab try to insert his whole fist into his mouth. He does this when we play especially when I lay him on his side and give him a back massage. He loves it when I rub is back and would squeal in delight. Lately, he starts to discover how fun it is to suck his thumb.
I haven’t seen him suck his thumb yet. Quennie does see him and would remove his thumb away. She told me to do the same if in case I see Gab starts to suck his thumb.
Today, I caught him.
I was about to leave home for a meeting. Gab was laying on the sofa bed. He was lying on his side, smiling and cooing. I stood up to get dressed.
I was only few steps away when I heard the sound — the sound of a baby sucking his thumb.
I turned back to check if what I heard was right. Gotcha! There he was drooling over his thumb. The sucking sound was so strong. He was really enjoying it.
At the back of my mind, I shouted No!
I immediately walked back to him and grabbed his thumb away from his mouth. Mission Accomplished.
But wait. Something is not right.
Split seconds later, the happy Gab turned red. His brows started to cross and his eyes gets watery.
Then he cried. He cried very loud I felt guilty removing him away from his new found comfort. He would cry and stare at me as if he is asking, “Why Dad? Why?”.
It took a while for him to calm down.
Whew.
I told Quennie about it. She told me next time to remove it slowly as not to startle him. Now I know.
mean daddy! mean! 😀
but good job daddy and mommy!
Naku, I stopped sucking my thumb when I was 7, I think? .. DONT LAUGH! Hahahaha! 🙂
